It’s been more than two years since we turned the Direct Response Marketing Alliance (DRMA) Spotlight on Los Angeles- based Swipe Payment Solutions. In that
time, Curtis Kleinman has risen to the title of
chief operating of;cer and the company has
made major inroads in both staf;ng and technology to service its burgeoning client base.
Recently, Response caught up with Kleinman
for this Spotlight Update.
How has the past year treated Swipe
Curtis Kleinman: In 2014,
Swipe saw an absolute explosion is sales growth. The many
industry rule changes regarding
credit card processing have
left marketers confused. Swipe
used this as an opportunity to
educate merchants on how
to avoid being hurt. Swipe
has hired several key support
personnel and relationship
managers that our competition
could no longer afford. We
have grown to nine relationship
managers to provide guidance
and support for our customers.
Have any of the past year’s events
changed the way Swipe Payment
Solutions does business?
Kleinman: Recent news shook marketers
when several processors announced they
stopped taking merchant accounts associated
with negative-option continuity offers. Swipe
offset this by establishing an international
solution, which doesn’t require merchants to
own a foreign entity. The great news is that
merchants can use their existing U.S. corporations and choose which currency they want
to sell and settle in. We also have multiple
domestic choices for reoccurring billing.
How is Swipe Payment Solutions seeking to expand its offerings to current and
Kleinman: Swipe is always diligent and will
continue to establish new banking relationships with well-established financial institutions and technology companies. We never
sign exclusive agreements for client benefit.
Our agnostic approach keeps our marketers
leveraged and with access to the best banking
products and tools.
What areas of the business is Swipe Payment
Solutions looking to move
Kleinman: Already a leader,
we are looking to further
establish merchant accounts
for trials, continuity, club
memberships and upsell programs. Marketers are looking
to add more revenue to every
sale and must avoid as many
obstacles as possible. We
help marketers capture all
revenue available to them.
What was one of your
most recent successful
campaigns — and why?
Kleinman: One is Feather Whirl, a client
shared with fellow DRMA member Meltzer
Media. Jeff Meltzer, president and CEO of
that company, said to me that Swipe got the
client approved for several merchant accounts
“faster than I’d ever seen in my previous 25
years in DR.” Because of that, Meltzer also
said, “We were able to fully process all payments for our test in a really short period
of time. It’s the sixth time we have had the
pleasure of using Swipe for a campaign
recently. Swipe is great with our clients and
there for all phases of testing and launch.”
What do you see as the hottest topics
facing marketers in the direct, digital and
Kleinman: As a result of Operation Choke
Point, many marketers are facing tougher
scrutiny and often getting denied a merchant
account. By choosing the right credit card
processor and following Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations, you lessen chances
of being affected.
Additionally, marketers must do everything perfectly to avoid chargebacks. This
includes giving refunds sooner, using a proper
billing descriptor, and providing top-notch
customer service. ;
